I sometimes look back in horror and laughter to the days when I was around 25 years of age and I truly believed that my significant years would be those lived pre-40!
Time and experience have proven me wrong, and I am so grateful for that! Because here I am post 65 and in my opinion I am now living my best life; more freedom to choose, less pressure to prove, keeping up with no one but myself. Yes. I am in my Season of Significance; in a space of more clarity, coaching, mentoring and pouring into others from the lessons I have learned through lived experiences both rough and smooth.
My earlier life was hustle and grind; building a career, bringing up my children, pouring my time and resources into them to ensure that they were as well rounded and exposed to as many ‘important’ experiences as possible such as faith, family, travel, education, and the arts.
Then out of the blue the children are grown with children of their own. The frantic schedule ceased to be the driving force of my universe and I gained the space to reflect and to re-emerge as someone who had now finally been blessed with the opportunity to consider what life could look like if I began to consider what I wanted, even needed for a change.
Now, here is where some women struggle. Because after decades of wearing many hats, some not of our own choice, but of family and cultural expectations, having the opportunity to consider ourselves may seem self-indulgent, or even selfish!
We built careers, nurtured families, and managed the expectations of everyone around us. But there is a specific, quiet power that arrives in our 60s and 70s. The frantic energy of proving ourselves fades, and what we are left with is the truest version of who we really are.
Woman, arise! Seize the opportunity to become your most authentic, relatable, confident, clear, and assured self!
You are no longer trying to prove yourself. You have not arrived emptyhanded. In fact you carry the knowledge and wisdom of lived experience that have served you through every challenge you have had to overcome to the present day.
Within you is a masterpiece no less, waiting to be unveiled and appreciated by others longing to be blessed by someone with your insight, empathy, sensitivity, emotional intelligence, common sense, and maturity.
You are seasoned and you are ready. You are uniquely positioned to arise to your next chapter from the darkroom of a life well lived.
Ask yourself this week: As I give myself permission to arise into my Season of Significance, what is the one true desire I need to fulfil that will become the Legacy I would love to pass on?
